Is there a right way to interpret the bible?
what was it that first got you thinking that the society was wrong in how they interpret the bible?.
for me personally, it was the way they always downgrade jesus to be an angel and are promoting the governing body in his place.. also when the society taught that jesus was abaddon/apollyon the fallen angel in revelation..

my thread here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/197200/5/atheists-do-you-ever-talk-to-god has taken a decidedly new twist.
one that has made me think it prudent to discuss a related matter.. would the world be a better place if all atheism was gone?
would it be a better place if all religion were gone?
Would the world be a better place without Atheism/Religious-ism?
Western culture is based on illusion. We have created an artificial world in place of nature which we have embraced as if it were real.
Religion is just one of many illusions that humans seem to depend on in order to give their lives meaning. On the whole, animals are actually more rational.
most of us here know what a hypocritical, backstabbing bunch of gossips many of the jw's tend to be.
far too often, a jw wont tell you to your face what's eating them, but they'll sure tell others.
when i started waking up (the second time around) this made me very paranoid.
A heartless poster on this very forum suggested that I was not a real gladiator, just a deluded nutter.

If your marriage is to pass the test of time, you will need to use more than the missionary position.

Faith in the sun rising is an entirely different matter. (The sun doesn't rise!)
Religion is belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe.
If someone is motivated by their belief or faith in a diety, then they are religious.

You have made many good points.
Religion and faith are the same. Claiming to have a faith but not a religion is an attempt to distance oneself from the appalling history of religion.
If someone possess faith in a god then they have a religion, they are a person of faith.
Atheists are fully responsible for their actions. The buck stops with them.
Many atrocities are carried out by religious people in the name of their god. They are able to say that it is their god's will, not theirs.
"If it were up to me I would let you live but god as told us to kill you because you are sinners and have insulted the Koran, Allah or Jehovah."
Many modern Christians will say they love gentle Jesus and that what Christianity has been responsible for is nothing to do with them. But it is not rational to ignore writings of the of the Bible and the actions it has led men to take, from a belief in Christ. It is an act of self delusion.
Once we remove the bogeyman in the sky, we have to take full resposibility for our morals and actions. To me it is the only honest way to live.

The world would be much the same. Religion is just a vehicle, a form of transport.
If religion did not exist, people would find other ways to play out the same power struggle. Find a way to pretend that death is not final. A way to impose rule and the burden of guilt.
Religion is not the problem; the problem is human nature.
may you all have peace... and, again, you really should find out before you declare... and tell others... that such things do not occur in our great country:.

happens all the time to less... shall we say, "economically desirable" persons.

then everyone here who has a problem with WTBTS elders/others who "allegedly" molest children should back off. Because a whole LOT of "judgment" is passed on those situations LONG before "all the facts" are heard.
This is a fair point. Alice was hounded of this forum for taking a similar stance. This illustrates how we can take a position that accommodates the information that we have absorbed. Real truth is based on proven facts.
Very few people are totally objective, including myself. Like many, I choose to keep alive certain illusions.
The glare of absolute reality is too bright without sunglasses.
in ezekiel the 4th chapter one of the most ludicrous passages in the bible tells us god commanded his prophet ezekiel to lie on his left side in a mock seige against a.....brick!
for how long?
390 days!.
If the Bible says that Ezekiel laid siege to a brick then it must have happened. The Lord works in mysterious ways.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that he threw the brick on the ground and it turned into brick monster and gobbled up all the Egyptian bricks.
